On November 18th, 2006, Tribal Dance Arts sponsored it's Autumn Hafla and we just can't stop talking about it! Fabulous dancing, excellent food, and the best crowd of participants and observers ever. The next hafla is already in the works for May, 2007. To the right is a group photo of most of the participants.

Tribal Dance Arts would like to thank all the dancers who make our haflas unique and enjoyable. Memorable performances were given by: Wild Gypsy Fire, Trance Formation, Insinuous Tribal Troupe (and their drummers, The Legion of Doumbek), Udita and her students (Olga, Courtney and Virginia), the Daughters of Sophia, and a particularly mesmerizing Tribal Fusion solo by Vorona. A very special performance by our workshop presenter, Sushma Mohan of Soorya Dance Company was appreciated by all. See Sushma in the picture to the left, or scroll down for more pictures from the workshop and performance.
We would also like to thank Ashtar's students for the inestimable help they gave TDA in preparing for and cleaning up after the hafla. Davinder and Chris did a great job of keeping the buffet tables full of yummy East Indian food; Alicia's hubby videotaped the performances; Madeline held the fort at the front desk uncomplainingly the whole evening, as patrons arrived in a steady stream all night.
Ashtar with the Film Crew from "Driving New Jersey"

A special thank you goes out to Steve Rogers and his film crew from "Driving Jersey", a documentary about New Jersey people and events. They spent the day filming and interviewing us, learning about the world of bellydance. We look forward to hearing about the progress of the film and, of course, to seeing it! If you would like to learn more about this documentary, check out this News article: On the road in pursuit of the spirit of New Jersey. Steve has is own website, DrivingJersey.com, but it's still a work in progress (and believe me, we know how that goes)!

Of course, we can't forget to thank Om Baby Yoga Studio for cooperating with Tribal Dance Arts to make the hafla really work. The extra special treat of a demonstration of "Capoeira" by Asustado from Nacao Capoeira, a student of Master Contramestre Bayano, which added a unique touch to the evening. See the pictures to left and right.

The picture to the left shows the room during intermission. It was a "show within a show" as the dancing never stopped. To the right are the drummers from the Legion of Doumbek, along with some dancers from Insinuous (and Giovanni on the left).
